A good studio policy clearly defines the responsibilities of parents, students, and teacher as they pertain to the logistics of piano study. I make my policy available here to prospective students and their families so they can get a sense of how the studio operates. Please feel free to email or call with any questions.
Studio Policy
The studio's academic year begins on September 1st and ends on June 30th. A calendar will be provided at the beginning of the academic year with all scheduled studio closings for that academic year.
Summer lessons are available and are scheduled on a student-by-student basis.
Cancellations, Make-ups, and Tardiness:
All lessons missed as a result of teacher absence will be made up at a convenient time for all.
All lessons canceled by the student with 24 hours notice will be made up at a convenient time for all. Lessons missed without 24 hours notice will not be made up. Exceptions for illness and emergency will be considered on a case by case basis.
Students arriving late for their lessons will not be given extra lesson time to make up for lost time. Students who arrive on time but do not begin the lesson on time will be given their full lesson time.
Tuition Fees:
Your tuition reserves a lesson time. You are expected to attend a lesson each week the studio is open during the academic year.
Tuition is based on a rate of $50/hr whether lessons are thirty, forty-five, or sixty minutes.
Tuition for piano lesson is due at the first lesson of the month. Monthly tuition not received by the 10th of the month will be charged a $25 late fee.
Tuition may be paid by cash or check. A $15 fee will be charged for NSF checks. After the second NSF check only cash payments will be accepted.
Expect a tuition increase of at least 5% at the beginning of each academic year.
Materials Required:
Tuition fees do not cover materials required for study. The student or parent/guardian is responsible for purchasing materials.
Each student must have a three ring spiral notebook to hold weekly assignment sheets, and must bring this notebook to each lesson.
Instrument Requirements:
A student may begin lessons on a digital piano, but that digital piano must be an 88-key keyboard with weighted keys.
After the first year of study it is expected that a student will have access to an acoustic piano for practicing. This piano should be well maintained and tuned at least twice a year.
Parking
On-street parking is generally available. When convenient on-street parking is unavailable students may park in the driveway. Any lesson time lost to disruptions as a result of moving a student's automobile will be made up at the teacher's discretion.
Lesson Etiquette:
Parents/guardians are encouraged to be present at lessons, especially for young beginners. Siblings may be present at lessons as long as their presence is not a distraction to the student.
